The Specifics

Between waiting for the start of baseball season and compulsively eyeing the latest college basketball scores, we’ve been more than a little preoccupied with sports lately. Luckily for you, we’re funneling our Final Four fever into a GOOD Maker Challenge. Tell us how you would use $500 to improve and uplift your community through sports, and the three proposals with the most votes will receive a grant. We love creative, unconventional ideas. Maybe you’ll use the cash to plan a citywide triathlon or a neighborhood kickball tournament. Perhaps you’ll start a pee wee soccer club or an intramural badminton league for seniors. Imagine how the love of the game can change your community, then submit your best plan of action here.

Submit a proposal between March 15 and April 16 (noon Pacific Time). From April 16-30, we’ll open it up to public voting. Rally your colleagues and friends to get behind your effort and join the GOOD community in selecting the top three grant winners.

Connect with this challenge on twitter at @GOODmkr and follow the conversation via #GOODsports.

Submission tips:

  • Include a photo or video that represents your idea. Photos should be in JPG, PNG, or GIF format, at least 570 × 345 pixels and no larger than 10MB. To include a video, use a YouTube URL.
  • Write at least 3-5 sentences that explain how the $500 award will enable you to implement your idea.
  • Email us at with any questions.

I love Urban Initiatives idea of harnessing the leadership potential of the at-risk youth who have graduated from their soccer program by placing them in Mentor Coach roles! Who better to serve as role models to the younger kids on the team than those who are just like them and who they identify with? INSPIRING!
