The Milwaukee South Side Baseball Club Travel Team would like to be able to participate in a Game Day USA baseball tournament being held in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, July 27-29, 2012.
The Milwaukee South Side Baseball Club (“MSSBC”) is a youth baseball organization which was founded in 2011 by Julian Haliga, a highly motivated and dedicated baseball coach who got his start coaching his sons’ baseball team at Felix Mantilla Little League in 2002. He was recently named “2012 Coach of the Year” by The United Community Center. Julian formed MSSBC because he wanted to provide the City of Milwaukee youths with opportunities to participate in organized baseball training, winter workouts and tournaments. The MSSBC baseball players are primarily minorities, and are taught starting with the fundamentals of baseball by coaches, college instructors, and formalized baseball camps throughout the year. Participants are charged nominal fees which are supplemented via donations and fundraising activities. One of the goals of the MSSBC is to expose the players to competitive baseball not only inside but outside the boundaries of the city, by participating in tournaments in bordering cities. MSSBC is considering an opportunity to participate in a “Game Day USA” event (http://www.gamedayusa.com/tournaments/baseball.cfm), which is being held in Wisconsin Dells, July 27-29, 2012. The cost to register in this tournament is Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00). Not only would this tournament align with the desire to allow the players to compete against teams who have also trained beyond the confines of community little leagues, at higher skill levels; but would also afford them and their families with the added experience of planning for a weekend event with their teammates in the beautiful Wisconsin Dells. Winning a Five Hundred Dollar ($500.00) grant would cover the registration cost. This would be a memorable experience for the MSSBC team from both an athletic, team and most importantly, a family building perspective.
Thank you for your consideration of our entry.
