The Idea

The Milwaukee South Side Baseball Club Travel Team would like to be able to participate in a Game Day USA baseball tournament being held in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, July 27-29, 2012.

The Specifics

The Milwaukee South Side Baseball Club (“MSSBC”) is a youth baseball organization which was founded in 2011 by Julian Haliga, a highly motivated and dedicated baseball coach who got his start coaching his sons’ baseball team at Felix Mantilla Little League in 2002. He was recently named “2012 Coach of the Year” by The United Community Center. Julian formed MSSBC because he wanted to provide the City of Milwaukee youths with opportunities to participate in organized baseball training, winter workouts and tournaments. The MSSBC baseball players are primarily minorities, and are taught starting with the fundamentals of baseball by coaches, college instructors, and formalized baseball camps throughout the year. Participants are charged nominal fees which are supplemented via donations and fundraising activities. One of the goals of the MSSBC is to expose the players to competitive baseball not only inside but outside the boundaries of the city, by participating in tournaments in bordering cities. MSSBC is considering an opportunity to participate in a "Game Day USA" event (http://www.gamedayusa.com/tournaments/baseball.cfm), which is being held in Wisconsin Dells, July 27-29, 2012. The cost to register in this tournament is Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00). Not only would this tournament align with the desire to allow the players to compete against teams who have also trained beyond the confines of community little leagues, at higher skill levels; but would also afford them and their families with the added experience of planning for a weekend event with their teammates in the beautiful Wisconsin Dells. Winning a Five Hundred Dollar ($500.00) grant would cover the registration cost. This would be a memorable experience for the MSSBC team from both an athletic, team and most importantly, a family building perspective.

Thank you for your consideration of our entry.

Respectfully submitted,

I have had the priviledge of working with Julian and his organization. His dedication is rather amazing. You don't find many people willing to give up so much of their time in order to help their community. Also, Julian is surrounded by some great folks that help keep him from being a "one man show".

Our teams count on volunteer and dedicated folks to keep the spirit alive. Your show of support is deeply appreciated. Please share our link with others so our team can also see that determination is behind all successes! Thanks again everyone, and Coach Julian for leading the pack!

Thank you for voting for this idea! The boys on the team have been working all winter on their baseball skills; traveling to Racine in order to workout with the best coaches at Hitters! We have a wonderful coach in Julian who has taught our boys about hardwork, dedication and humility!

What started out as pee wee leaguers for a number of our boys, has grown into a group of fine young men with positive goals and ambitions. MSSBC not only trains our boys in baseball, but teaches them to be each other's brothers and sisters. Our players have worked hard all fall and winter and are excited about their real baseball season where they can take their training to the field. In the words of Jerry McGuire, help us, help them! We appreciate your support and help in getting us votes. Keep your eyes on the ball, and swing for the fences! GO MSSBC!!!

Looks like you have a fantastic organaztaion here. I'm proud to vote for your idea. Though a lot of parents and people talk about how our youths need something to do, You've taken it to an entirly different level and actually have done somthing about it. Julian, your an inspration to your family, your neighborhood, our youth and to the City of Milwaukee. Thank you for taking an interest in the kids and for helping Milwaukeebe a better place for our youth.

This is for our Milwaukee South Side Baseball club, that I started a year ago. When the club first started I was just trying to take one group of boys, and take them to try a whole knew level of baseball being played in the Travel Baseball Circuit. Last year parents learned there is a pretty huge difference. Together MSSBC has had a hand in setting up two different winter work outs for the winter of 2012, One in Milwaukee and one in Racine. And plan on expanding to two travels teams, along with the 50-100 kids they have working out in the winter.
